Hi! My name is Minqian, and I’m a visual development artist and illustrator with a passion for storytelling through art. I was born and raised in Hong Kong and am now based in Los Angeles. I specialize in character design, background design, world-building, and creating art toys.
In my work, I explore themes deeply tied to my cultural heritage and personal experiences. Growing up in Hong Kong, I was surrounded by a crowded, often overwhelming environment, and my childhood was far from easy. My father’s violence and my mother’s rigid adherence to rules created a cycle of fear and uncertainty. To cope, I turned to my imagination as a form of escape and healing. I would transform the world around me into something magical—dreaming of colorful skyscrapers, fantastical creatures roaming the streets, and other surreal landscapes that became recurring themes in my childhood dreams.
Now, as an artist, I channel these early experiences into my work. My art is a way to process the emotional scars of my past and share the imaginative worlds I created as a child. Through vibrant cityscapes, whimsical characters, and fantastical narratives, I aim to connect with others by turning pain into beauty and offering a glimpse into the resilience of the human spirit. For me, art is not just about storytelling—it’s about healing, both for myself and for those who experience my work.
